ALLIANCE TO

END PLASTIC WASTE

The most comprehensive cross-value chain initiative of its kind with a clear mission to help end plastic waste in the environment.

Plastic waste in the environment, particularly the ocean, is a serious global challenge that calls for swift action and strong leadership. Despite the many benefits plastics bring to people and communities around the world, including improvements in living standards, health, safety and sustainability, unmanaged plastic waste has become a global challenge.

The Alliance to End Plastic Waste is made up of over 40 companies that have committed more than $1 billion, with the goal of investing $1.5 billion over the next 5 years, to help end plastic waste in the environment. The Alliance will develop, deploy and bring to scale solutions that will minimize and manage plastic waste and promote solutions for used plastics, including reuse, recovery and recycling plastic to keep it out of the environment.

Addressing an issue of global proportions

Plastics have helped improve living standards, hygiene and nutrition around the world, especially in developing countries. Rapid increases in income and prosperity have brought many of the conveniences of modern life. However, used plastics have become a global environmental challenge.

OUR MISSION

ELIMINATE PLASTIC WASTE
IN OUR ENVIRONMENT

Plastics provide many critical sanitary, safety, health preservation and convenience benefits. Even as we work aggressively to reduce plastic waste in the environment, we must maintain the critical benefits that plastics bring to people and communities around the world. With a thoughtful, comprehensive and strategic approach, we can do both.

Antoine Frérot,
CEO of Veolia

"Addressing plastic waste in the environment requires the participation and long term commitment of all aspects of society, including consumers, manufacturers, technology developers, the finance community, government and civil society. No one country, company or community can solve this on their own."
