Alliance Increases Membership with Addition of BoReTech, EREMA Group and Uniloy, adds WRAP as Strategic Partner
December 21, 2021

Singapore, December 21, 2021 – The Alliance to End Plastic Waste (Alliance) has strengthened its global network of members with the addition of leaders in the plastic moulding and recycling industries. It has also formalised a partnership with the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP).

BoReTech is a pioneer in the polyethylene (PET) recycling industry with over 30 years of experience in end-to-end recycling solutions for PET bottles and miscellaneous post-consumer plastics, with over 15 years in equipment manufacturing and environmental engineering.

“We believe there is a significant opportunity to grow recycling solutions to better meet the needs of a circular economy. We are excited to be joining the Alliance family, and to be working alongside leaders across the value chain, to create strong partnerships for better recycling to help create a more sustainable future,” said Ou, Che-Wen, Chairman of BoReTech Group.

EREMA Group is based in Ansfelden in Austria. It is one of the world's leading manufacturers of plastics recycling solutions and recycling process-related services. EREMA recycling solutions currently operate in 108 countries worldwide and recycle around 14.5 million tons of plastic every year.

“Plastic at the end of its lifecycle is still a resource that can be used to create value if the players in our industry work together. This idea has inspired the EREMA Group from the beginning and is why we develop recycling technologies and network with like-minded partners,” said Manfred Hackl, CEO of EREMA Group. “The Alliance is the perfect opportunity to intensify cooperation within the industry, closing loops and driving forward the circular economy as a whole.”

Uniloy is a global leader in blow moulding technologies, which involves the manufacture of hollow plastic parts like bottles. Uniloy has a strong emphasis on research and development which it carries out through a world-leading blow moulding testing laboratory.

“Plastics can enrich lives by producing durable, safe, and economical products. As a leading supplier of blow moulding machines and moulds, Uniloy must take a circular economy approach—by working to ensure plastic parts are produced with minimal waste, process new and innovative biomaterials, and maximise the use of recycled material,” said Brian Marston, President and CEO of Uniloy. “I am confident that our membership with the Alliance will increase our ability to lead the sector in eliminating plastic waste.”

“Many more solutions are needed in recycling and across the plastics value chain. Our growing membership reflects the desire of industry to be part of the solution to address plastic waste in the environment. We welcome BoReTech, EREMA and Uniloy, and the expertise they will bring to developing new technologies to advance a circular economy for plastics,” said Jacob Duer, President and CEO of the Alliance.

The Alliance also formalised its collaboration with WRAP, a UK-based global climate change non- governmental organisation. The partnership aims to reduce plastic waste through knowledge and data sharing, as well as to co-fund interventions in priority areas including Africa, India, and Latin America.

“WRAP is delighted to become a strategic partner of the Alliance to End Plastic Waste. We recognise that, while plastic has an important role to play in all our lives, it is vital that it is only used where necessary, and where it is used it remains in the economy, not in the environment. Our partnership with the Alliance will strengthen both organisation’s global efforts to end plastic pollution and work towards a circular economy.”

“The role of civil society is just as important as that of the private sector, and we are excited to welcome WRAP to our growing network of partners. An area of early collaboration will be on the PRISM (Plastics Recovery Insights Steering Model) data platform developed by the Alliance, in partnership with IBM,” said Mr Duer. “Through data sharing on the platform, WRAP and the Alliance aim to better define approaches in underserved priority areas.”
