Alliance to End Plastic Waste Expands Ranks with Five New Members
SINGAPORE, 9 March 2021, The Alliance to End Plastic Waste, an international non-profit organisation, welcomes five new members—Amcor plc, Atlantic Packaging Co., Inter Pipeline Ltd, Kirin Holdings and Novacel—bringing its total membership to 57 companies, a group comprising some of the world’s largest organisations in the plastic value chain.
“The momentum we are seeing in our membership growth points to a growing number of companies directing their attention to the actions they can take in ending plastic waste in the environment. With five new members, we welcome even more diversity into the Alliance from both membership category and geographic standpoints. We are excited to include new viewpoints and different expertise on our membership bench,” said Jacob Duer, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Alliance.
Amcor plc is a global leader in developing and producing responsible packaging for food, beverage, pharmaceutical, medical, home-and personal-care, and other products. Ron Delia, CEO of Amcor said, “Amcor’s extensive innovation capabilities are delivering packaging designed to achieve the commitment to make all our packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025. But keeping waste out of the environment also requires collaboration across the global value chain for better waste management and recycling infrastructure, and to educate consumers. The Alliance serves as a crucial forum for that collaborative effort across parties aligned on the need to deliver more sustainable outcomes. I am excited that Amcor is taking up this leadership role within the Alliance and we look forward to working with the other Alliance members to advance on our shared ambitions for responsible packaging.”
Atlantic Packaging Co. specialises in end-of-line packaging systems and materials as well as converted paperboard and corrugated solutions. “Atlantic Packaging is leading the way through transparency and collaboration across the supply chain to create a sustainable future for our planet. By joining the global efforts of the Alliance and committing to sustainability, we believe our industry can have the greatest impact on global pollution and climate change. We look forward to supporting this effort through our work in introducing recyclable and compostable materials, as well as promoting and creating packaging efficiency, optimisation, and closed recycling systems for B2B industry and e-commerce, retail, and industrial operations across North America,” remarked Wes Carter, President of Atlantic Packaging.
Inter Pipeline Ltd is a major petroleum transportation and natural gas liquids processing business. “Inter Pipeline is honoured to join the Alliance. Being a responsible and conscientious operator has always been a top priority for us,” said Christian Bayle, President and CEO of Inter Pipeline. “Joining the Alliance is timely given our world-scale integrated polypropylene complex, the first of its kind in North America, is nearing completion. We are already supporting efforts in Canada to remove plastic waste from the environment through the Plastics Research in Action (‘PRIA’) initiative, and the Alliance complements these efforts.”
Kirin Holdings is a global company operating in the food (alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages), medical (pharmaceuticals) segments, as well as health sciences. Yoshinori Isozaki, President and CEO of Kirin said, “Kirin is honoured to be the first food company in Japan to become a member of the Alliance to End Plastic Waste. I believe that partnering with the Alliance will accelerate our achievement of a key environmental vision—a positive cycle of using and recycling containers and packaging in a sustainable way for society—and our aspiration to be a global leader in creating shared value.”
Also joining the Alliance is Novacel, from Chargeurs group, a company that reduces customers’ product waste by providing comprehensive and efficient advanced adhesive solutions. According to Richard Marchant, Novacel CEO, “All our protective tapes are 100% recyclable. We apply a product life-cycle approach to managing our own environmental impacts, and using renewable, recycled, and recyclable materials is a cornerstone of our strategy. We are honoured and delighted to join the Alliance and team up with internationally renowned partners. We will also establish an extraordinary task force to accelerate our transition towards a circular economy.”
