OVERVIEW OF THE ALLIANCE TO END PLASTIC WASTE

The Alliance to End Plastic Waste (“Alliance”) is an international non-profit organisation partnering with government, environmental and economic development NGOs and communities around the world to address the challenge to end plastic waste in the environment. Through programmes and partnerships, the Alliance focuses on solutions in four strategic areas: infrastructure, innovation, education and engagement, and clean up. As of Dec 2021, the Alliance has more than 85 member companies and supporters representing global companies and organisations across the plastic value chain.

Tackling plastic waste is a complex challenge that requires collective action. Since 2019, the Alliance has convened a global network of industry leaders across the plastics value chain, together with government, civil society, entrepreneurs, and communities to work towards advancing a circular economy for plastic waste. POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Strategic Initiatives and Metrics Manager, the Business Analyst - Impact Metrics supports accurate reporting of the Alliance’s impact and strategic initiatives, including supporting annual assurance of impact metrics. The role holder oversees data management and analysis of key metrics, database platform improvements, and support insights development for various stakeholders. The Impact Reporting Analyst will identify opportunities for strengthening the Alliance’s Impact Metrics Framework, work with various stakeholders to facilitate improvements and ensure all metrics and related processes align with the strategy and ESG reporting/assurance best-practice. As a member of the Strategy & Planning team, the role holder also supports development of material for regular Executive Leadership, members and Board level engagements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Regular tracking and reporting of the Alliance’s strategic initiatives, coordinating timely insights to support management decision making
  • Manage database of all key impact metrics and strategic initiatives, working closely with Data Owner teams to develop/improve reporting platforms and tools that are aligned with key reporting frameworks (e.g. Impact Metrics Framework, Strategy and Programs reporting)
  • Support annual assurance of impact metrics and reporting disclosures. Project manage assurance exercise from planning and execution (training/communication, data collection, validation and verification through to data testing, assurance and external reporting). Work closely with external Assurer to ensure process runs smoothly and issues are escalated and resolved appropriately
  • Work closely with internal Data Owner teams/submitters to ensure data adheres to robust processes and guidelines (as outlined in the Impact Metrics Framework), conduct spot-checks and test data on a regular basis for accuracy and completeness
  • Collaborate with Data Owner teams and Topic Owners to identify and implement improvements to reporting processes and definitions, working towards achieving best practice and addressing the assurer’s recommendations
  • Support preparation of materials (reports, presentations, performance dashboards) for Management and Board-level engagement including coordinating information from internal stakeholders and narrative development
  • Analysis and research of key ESG reporting and industry trends for insights to drive continuous strengthening of the Alliance’s reporting and disclosure framework, and as input into broader Strategy & Planning workplan and initiatives
  • Lead smaller initiatives related to business and reporting improvements and/or strategy development and engagement.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • achelor’s degree in relevant field (e.g., business administration, data science and analytics, computer science, accounting/finance). Interest in environmental sciences and sustainability
  • 5+ years relevant experience in a business performance reporting and analyst roles, ideally with experience and understanding of the assurance process but not essential. Suitable for an individual seeking ESG and impact reporting experience within an NGO
  • Basic knowledge of the plastics and waste management industries as well as key sustainability concepts and technologies would be an added advantage
  • Familiarity with key sustainability reporting standards e.g. ISAE 3000, GRI, CDP
  • Significant drive and results orientated; self-starter and able to work independently
  • Excellent analytical skills to understand and summarise data. Attention to detail is important
  • Can do attitude, problem solving skills, resourceful, and learner mindset
  • Able to manage a broad set of tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent English communication skills – both written and spoken
  • Highly personable with strong stakeholder management experience, able to interface and influence at all levels
  • The role involves interaction with globally based staff, with some irregular working hours to accommodate different time zones. Flexible work arrangements available with expectation to be in the office at least 3 times per week.
